Newspapers

The newspapers revolutionized the way societies obtain information; but in our ever expanding society and technological advances is the newspaper still need? The newspaper is one of oldest forms of mass communication (media technology). The newspaper goes back over five centuries from the 1400’s as a form of news pamphlet to early Renaissance Europe as a hand written newsletter (Barber, 2011). By the 1800’s, the newspaper had reached every corner of the earth. Inventions like the printing press and the telegraphed allowed for information to be reported in a timelier and wide spread manner. In the 19th century, the newspaper was the primary way of receiving and reporting of current events. By the late 19th century into the 20th, the way people receive information has greatly changed.

We live in a fast pace society that never seems to stop. People want to receive their information as fast as possible and the advances in technology have greatly contributed its success.  In today’s technological advanced age, the newspaper still provides millions of people with a means of retrieving information when other forms of media (television, internet, phone, etc) are not available. They are available in every state/city and provide detail information on events that are broadcasted on the television and radio.
Newspapers are still utilized by all ages and classes of people. People use newspapers as research tools, for advertisements, entertainment, and to gain more knowledge of current events that they might have seen on elsewhere. As for me, I enjoy sitting down at my table with a good cup of coffee reading the funnies and getting updated on local and government news that might affect my family and community.  There is definitely something about physical holding a newspaper in my hand vice taking out my laptop and connecting to the internet.
